Wake On Up From Your Slumber...

My new favorite song is "Slumber" by NeedToBreathe....Listen:>)

Slumber

Days they force you back under those covers,
lazy mornings they multiply,
glory's waiting outside your windows.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.

Tongues are violent, personal and focused,
tough to be with your steady mind,
hearts are stronger after broken.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.

All these victims stand in line for,
crumbs that fall from the table just enough to get by,
all the while your invitation.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.

Take from vandals all you want now,
please don't trade it in for life,
replaced your feeble with the fable.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.

All these victims stand in line for,
crumbs that fall from the table just enough to get by,
all the while your invitation.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.

Sing like we used to,
dance when you want to,
taste for the breakthrough open wide.

All these victims stand in line for,
crumbs that fall from the table just enough to get by,
all the while your invitation.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.
Wake on up from your slumber, baby open up your eyes.

Come on, sing like we used to,
and dance like you want to.
Come on darlin' open your eyes.
I wanna sing like we used to.
I wanna dance like we want to.
Come on darlin' open up your eyes.

World Spins Madly On

As I was driving to Franklin yesterday, a song I'd never heard came on the radio...."World Spins Madly On" by The Weepies.

It's rare that a song literally stops me in my tracks.  This one did.  I wish I could play it for you here...go to Itunes to hear :>)  *Note: It is a very melancholy song.  I'm not even feeling especially melancholy right now, I just loved the words and the feel of the music - Don't worry :>)

World Spins Madly On

Woke up and wished that I was dead
With an aching in my head
I lay motionless in bed

I thought of you and where you'd gone
Let the world spin madly on

And everything that I said I'd do
Like make the world brand new
Take the time for you

I just got lost and slept right through the dawn
And the world spins madly on

I let the day go by
I always say goodbye
I watch the stars from my windowsill
The whole world is moving and I'm standing still

Woke up and wished that I was dead
With an aching in my head
I lay motionless in bed

The night is here, the day is gone
And the world spins madly on

Thought of you and where you'd gone
And the world spins madly on
And the world spins madly on
And the world spins madly on
and on
and on
and on

Be Magical

I was browsing through the new issue of Rue Magazine, and I fell in love with the article on Alison Sudol's (from the band Fine Frenzy) home in L.A.  It is such a whimsical, creative space.   They posted this "behind the scenes" video of the photo shoot.  Enjoy!

White Christmas

I know it's only November, but -

Who am I kidding.  I'm the girl who turns on Christmas music in October!

TIS THE SEASON!!!!!!

I actually have an excuse for talking about Christmas so early.  One of my favorite holiday movies is the classic "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney.  I used to dream about wearing the amazing Red Christmas dresses that they wear at the end of the movie:

Even in 5th grade, when Kacey and I both played Mrs. Clause in our school musical, we begged our music teacher, Mrs. Randall, (and our mom!) to let us wear dresses like these.  Needless to say, our 5th grade version seemed pretty spectacular at the time.

Anyway, a community theater here in Nashville is putting on a production of White Christmas this December....and I'm in it!

I'm so excited!  I'm playing one of the showgirls (naturally :>) haha!), so my dress at the end of the show might not be quite as majestic as Judy's and Betty's :>)  I'll keep ya posted!

We started rehearsals last week....I'm off to buy some character shoes today.

I feel like I'm right back in high school!

I'll leave you with some classic pictures from White Christmas:

Makes me want to put the movie in right now.

OH EM GEE! I started a blog...

I love a lot of things.  Too many things, I think sometimes!  But there's no changing it.

I want to do it all.

I love to cook.  So I think about going to Culinary School.  Cue scene: Me, in some fancy Italian cooking school (prada heels and all - I don't own pradas.), whipping up fantastic dishes a la Giada, and promptly getting offered my own show called "Kooking with Kate" or something equally cheesy...ooh, cheese.  Add to scene: 20 pounds because of all the cheese.

I love wine.  Oh, sister, do I LOVE wine.  So, "why not?", I ask myself.  "Self," I say, "why not pick up and move on out to Napa?  Go ahead, go back to viticulture school!  Go ahead, become a sommelier of that amazing little bistro in St. Helena".  Cue scene: Me, purple teeth but blissfully happy lying on my back in between two vines, staring at the perfect Napa sky, and picking animals out of cloud formations.  (I mean, that sounds amazing.)

I love Michaels.  That's right.  The craft store.  I can't help it! My sisters, Kara and Kacey, claim even the thought of Michaels makes them break out in a cold sweat.  It makes me break out into a happy dance.  Since I have no one to go to Michaels with, I simply go by myself.  And promptly leave with waaaaaaaaay too many projects!  Cue scene: Me, ten bags of crafty things - candle making, oil painting, flower arranging, beading, scrapbooking!, drawing!, head spinning off! Add to scene: enter Husband, "Honey, why do we have a credit card bill for $xxxxx to Michaels?" Me, "Hmmm? Did you say something? Going to walk the dog! kiss kiss!"

I want to be a Wedding Planner.  I want to be an Event Planner!  A Decorator.  A Painter.  I want to speak Italian.  I want to travel the world!  Heck!
I might as well become an Astronaut.

Most of all, however, I love Music.  So Music has become "what I do."  Cue Scene: stage, lights, guitars, Kacey, songs, writing, friends, laughter, tears, sweat, failure, success, airplanes, albums, singles, make up, blue carpets, orange carpets, high heels, radio, videos, melody, harmony....

Add to scene: My Life.  This is everything that I love to dream up and try to turn into my Life.

I have more dreams than I can count.  And I believe in trying to make every single one of those dreams come true!  It's what I call a "Dream To Life".  Big dreams, small dreams, and all the ones in between....each is valid, and each deserves it's chance to shine.

So come dream with me...

Let's turn our Dreams into Life!
