Sunday Funday

I loved that sign!  Billy and I spent our first Sunday together in a month this past weekend.  We decided to head on down to Franklin to browse the little shops and antique stores off Main Street and on.  And when our stomachs started growling, we popped into 55 South.  Neither of us had ever been before, and we had such a great time!

The vibe of the restaurant is industrial but cozy with lots of exposed brick, reclaimed wood furniture, and amazing mason jar pendant lights.  They have a New Orleans influenced menu - with oysters, jambalaya, and gumbo as the stars.  Mardi gras beads dripped from chandeliers.  And when Kirk Herbstreit walked in with his wife and 4 blonde tykes, Billy was preee-tttty excited.  Ok, fine, I was too. I mean, come on, COLLEGE GAME DAY STARTS THIS WEEKEND!

Below are a few quick iphone pics I took from our Sunday Funday:

Great WWII gallery wall - so much character and personality.

Had to take a pic of the '55 South' Hurricane recipe that we both ordered.  Delicious!

I love the red truck in the background of this picture - so Tennessee :>)

Pops Of Purple: Guest Blogger!

Happy Monday!  It's amazing that this weekend is LABOR DAY...right?!  Here comes jeans and boots, college football, holiday decorating...I cannot wait!

I was approached by a design website recently called Design Shuffle about posting on my blog - I loved the post they sent me.  It ties in all the lovely purple-ness I've been chatting about lately :>)  So, Jennifer, take it away!  And thank you....

Hi all! I’m Jennifer and I write for Design Shuffle, a social media site that chronicles the work of top interior designers around the world. I've been writing about home decor since graduating university and have loved it ever since. I'm addicted to patterned fabrics, Jonathan Adler, chaise lounges, old doors, milk glass jars, antiques, and more. Kate at Dreams To Life likes to dream big - that's my kind of gal, and I'm a daily visitor to her blog. I am delighted to be guest posting here today- thanks Kate!

Looking for tried-and-true interior design ideas? Then try a blast of a vivid hue, like pops of purple. Perfect for edgy den design or a beautiful bedroom design, purple in all its glorious shades is elegant, playful and mod, all at once. Here are eight stunning spaces with pops of purple.

Purple interiors
Excellent eggplant via

There are only two purple accents in this space (although the entire living room design seems to have a purple pulse): the oversized lamp shade and two chairs. It's just enough color.

Purple Interiors
Lovely lavender via

Calming and oh-so-soothing, this bedroom design incorporates a pale purple window shade and bed features, ideal for a little girl or even a guest room.

Purple Interiors
Awesome accents via

A subtle purple accent wall in this high room is striking, while the sheer purple curtains are delicate enough to not overpower the space.

Purple Interiors
Wonderful wisteria via

Purple fabric on the chairs is all this formal dining room needs for a touch of whimsy. The plain white chandelier gives the regal shade center stage.

Purple Interiors
Opulence overhead via

While a purple ceiling may not be the most obvious decorating idea, it works, especially in this long and narrow dining room.

Purple Interiors
Pretty plaid via

Shades of purple work well in a plaid bedspread because it's understated - the window treatments help accentuate the pretty hue.

Purple Interiors
Lilac working space via

A home office with a pop of purple in the shelves infuses the space with a dash of playfulness.

Accents of lavender flowers can always bring serenity to any room, especially the dining table.

Week 4: Dinner

Week 4 of the Photography Challenge over at A Step In The Journey was to capture dinner.  While I really wanted to try to capture a fun restaurant or colorful cocktail, sadly this week was jam packed full and all I could capture was the new recipe we tried on Wednesday.  Actually, my sister Kacey made it first and told me we had to try it....

She was right - it was delicious!

I took this picture from on top of our kitchen counter looking down at everything bubbling away....Chicken Piccata on the bottom and red potatoes about to be mashed on top.

I chose to play with this photo in editing this week.  Like I've mentioned before, we don't get a lot of natural light in our house, so taking photos past early afternoon can be challenging.  I played with saturation, contrast, and shadows in editing in order to try to get the steam to really pop.

Chicken Piccata recipe can be found here.

Wedding 101 Experience Tent

The Pink Bridal show was last weekend downtown at the Nashville Convention Center.  This year, Wedding 101 had a 30x30 tent where we could house a lot of our vendors and show off some amazing inspiration.  Our idea for designing the tent was to create 4 different vignettes, one in each corner of the tent: "Rock 'N Roll Glam", "Classic Couture", "Vintage Chic", and "Urban Sleek".

It was a lot of work (I definitely didn't feel guilty for not makin' it to the gym.) but completely worth it!  The tent looked great!

Rock 'N Roll Glam:

Color Palette:
Black, White, Hot Pink, Silver
Details:
Short dresses, long pearls, candy bar, tarnished silver cake stand and candelabra,
hang open black gothic frames

Classic Couture

Color Palette:
Ivory, Champagne, Gold
Details:
Long, elegant, high fashion dresses, Crystal Chandelier, Gold mirrors, classic rose bouquet, Traditional with a twist: Glass apothecary jars as centerpieces

Vintage Chic

Color Palette:
Ivory, Raspberry, Tan, Pale Yellow
Details:
Vintage Lace dress, Silk fringe bunting, shabby chic props, DIY felt flowers and bell "send-off" wands, baby's breath bouquet and boutonniere

Urban Sleek

Color Palette:
White, Silver, Black, Plum, Lavender
Details:
Long, modern dresses, simple and sparse table scape: tall calla lillies, square place settings, crystal drops on light, brushed silver table and mirror, clear chiavari chairs

Which is your favorite??

How To: Glittery Stirring Sticks

A new How To!  I made these Glitter Stirring Sticks for a photo shoot we had last week.  Remember the 1920's Speakeasy "feathers and fire" inspiration board?  Well these sparkly little stirrers went alongside the champagne cocktail bar.

Supplies
Wooden skewer sticks
glitter (color your choice)
Glue stick
spray adhesive

1.)  Run glue stick over part of wooden skewer that you want the glitter to stick to.

2.)  Dip glue end into jar of glitter and swirl around - get a good coating of glitter on there (or you can sprinkle the glitter over it by hand.

3.)  Spray glitter end with Spray adhesive to make the glitter stick really well to the wooden skewer stick.

4.  Display in a pretty jar, and get ready for a sparkly good time!

Have a lovely Tuesday!

I get so many emails every day - from stores, deal sites, lifestyle tips, yoga studios, google alerts....not to mention all the "real" emails.  AKA, emails I should be answering and working on instead of heading to Nordstrom.com to look at their new fall boot line.

(Although my cute husband did forward me a Nordstrom email saying, "Honey! This is you to a tee!"
Country Manor-Chic? I could be down with that :>)

There are a few emails I get that I read as soon as I can...Do you receive these?

Sign up to get your daily dose of Glitter!!  "Our newsletter offers fun, chic, and colorful lifestyle tidbits from fashion to fitness; each injected with a healthy dose of Glitter."

My favorite part of the daily email is the House Tour...lots of amazing, inspiring pictures of everyday homes all over the world.

Week 3: Bold Colors

It's week 3 of the photography challenge!  And what, do you ask, is the target this week? Oh, you didn't ask? Well, no worries, I'll tell you anyway :>)

BOLD Colors.
(I imagine you reading that out loud in a big, shaky, vibrato-y voice...BOOOLLLLDDDD Colors!)

That's bold, baby.

This is Ms. Beehive. She lived at Retropolitan for quite awhile, until someone scooped her up and took her home.  I miss her.

I do miss her, but actually, this is a painting from Retropolitan (the interior design store I work for) by the amazing and talented Scott Moore.  He painted an entire bee collection for the store this spring, and Ms. Beehive was my favorite.  I love her vibrant red hair, the piercing blue sky, thick black lashes, ruby lips, and yellow honeybees keeping her company.

I didn't need to fake any light for this shot - the store gets amazing natural light during the day.  So I popped my camera to A (auto) and shot away.  A few more pics of the store:

I do love Greek Key :>)  Link up to the photography party!!!  It's fun.
